ANXIETY

Anxiety is experienced by all individuals and is a useful means in warning us of impending danger or difficulty. Some individuals have a lower threshold of managing this ‘everyday anxiety’ and can require treatment by a psychologist. Anxiety causes symptoms such as racing of thoughts (often described by clients as ‘mind constantly on the go’), avoidance of activities or some settings, over thinking, anger or frustration and difficulty falling asleep. Some of the physiological symptoms of Anxiety include excessive sweating, ‘butterflies’ in the stomach, increased heart rate, frequent visits to the toilet and muscle tensions. Through psychological counselling, a client can learn more about their own experiences of anxiety, be more aware of the warning signs so as to avoid a panic attack and gain skills to ‘normalize’ their experiences of anxiety so as to reduce the symptoms.

DEPRESSION

Depression and it’s symptoms are as common as one in five individuals over the course of their lives. It is the most common form of mental health disorder and unfortunately ill diagnosed at times. Some of the symptoms include negative thoughts, continuously low moods, decreased ability to control emotions, feelings of guilt and worthlessness and diminished interest or pleasure in once enjoyable activities. You are not alone and with help of counselling, you can learn strategies to better manage your condition and gain a better quality of life.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress is an everyday experience for most individuals caused by factors within our relationships, life changes, work or education or health related issues out of our control. Stress can be helpful when it encourages an individual to take charge of their lives and make some changes to be better adjusted in most areas of their lives. However extreme stress can be unhealthy and cause feelings of anxiety or depression, reduced or increased appetite, sleep difficulties, difficulty concentrating and can cause frequent irritation or anger. Counselling can help you understand the various factors contributing towards your levels of stress and help you develop more effective coping strategies to deal with any situations.

ANGER MANAGEMENT

Anger is an everyday emotion, experienced by all individuals on a regular basis in their lives. However, some individuals have difficulty managing their anger or frustration due to underlying psychological issues which causes them to react in an extreme manner. They tend to ‘lash out’ unwillingly causing emotional and often physical harm to their loved ones. Anger also often causes a person to experience some Depressive symptoms due to unresolved issues or guilt caused from undertaking unhelpful behaviours. There are healthier ways to manage one’s anger and frustration which a client can learn to counselling.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Experience of any form of physical discomfort, let alone a severe health condition, can cause a person to significantly alter their ways of life. Reduction in activities such as work hours or type of work, social activities and perceived inability to undertake previous forms of tasks can cause an individual to experience conditions such as Anxiety and Depression. Counselling can help you gain skills to better manage the psychological symptoms associated with your physical conditions and provide strategies to help you gain your best quality of life.
